Welcome to Keiki Roots!
Keiki Roots is a nature-based program created for homeschooling families who value hands-on, place-based learning rooted off Kāne’ohe Bay in Hawai‘i.
Our current programs are designed for primary-aged keiki, supporting their growth through outdoor exploration, cultural connection, and joyful learning in nature. Registration is now open for keiki ages 5-11. Please see admissions page for details.
Furthermore, we are excited to launch our Toddler and Caregiver Program: Roots and Wings!
Roots and Wings is a 90-minute nature-based playgroup designed to nurture curiosity, connection, and a love of the outdoors. This gentle, play-centered class invites caregivers and keiki to explore nature together through hands-on discovery, movement, and creativity. Each class includes a blend of outdoor and indoor exploration, with plenty of time for digging in the dirt, splashing in puddles, searching for natural treasures, and getting a little muddy along the way! Keiki will build early social skills, confidence, and sensory awareness while caregivers participate alongside them. Our time together will also feature a cozy circle time with songs and simple movement, a nature-inspired story time, and a process-based craft using natural or seasonal materials. Activities are developmentally appropriate and flexible, allowing Keiki to engage at their own pace.
This class is perfect for families who value outdoor play, creativity, and meaningful moments of connection—rain or shine!
Each week will follow a familiar rhythm to help keiki feel safe and confident, while still allowing room for seasonal discoveries and child-led play.
- Arrival & Free Exploration- Meet in the cabin for a gentle transition time with open-ended indoor play.
- Circle Time- Songs, movement, finger plays, and simple group activities.
- Outdoor Nature Immersion- Nature walks, sensory play, digging, searching for bugs, water/mud play.
- Story Time- Nature-themed books connected to the season or weekly focus.
- Craft Experience- Process-based, nature-inspired art using simple materials.
- Closing & Goodbye- Calm wrap-up, reflection, and transition out.
*Weekly flow is flexible and adapts to weather, group needs, and child interest.
